Twitter TV: The End Is Near

Ok so this is my favorite article to date thanks to Robert X. Cringely, InfoWorld for the keen perspective!!

This is it. The end of days. The Last Mile. The Final Enchillada. Some rude beast is slouching toward Bethlehem, and it's not just Oprah in a muumuu.

They're turning Twitter into a reality TV series.

Let me say that again, in case you missed it: They're turning Twitter into a reality TV series.

This is the way the world ends, not with a bang but 140 characters of pure drivel.

Twitter TV: The End Is NearFor reasons that are only clear if your brain has been overexposed to cathode rays, two Hollywood production companies are cooking up an unscripted show built around the microblog. Per Variety

User Community Balks at Twitter TV

SAN FRANCISCO: A backlash against an inchoate Twitter reality TV series drew nearly 1,200 official followers in a single day. The news that Twitter executives were talking with Reveille, the production company responsible for “The Biggest Loser” and “The Office,” and Brillstein Entertainment, prompted users of the micro-blog Webtropolis to rebel. Ian Former, a 39-year-old self-described “guy from South Carolina,” started @no_twitter_show (@no_tweet_show) on the Web site, objecting to the project.

“I feel the TV show is not a good direction given how glitchy Twitter is,” Former wrote on this blog. His Twitter protest site generated 1,182 followers since 8 p.m. Monday, including Demi Moore, whose husband Ashton Kutcher is the elite of Twitterati, so to speak, with nearly 2 million followers. Kutcher fears a Twitter TV show would incite stalkers.

“I can’t imagine it getting many viewers,” Kutcher wrote, followed by the universal code for “laugh out loud.”

Wow I made a mark on twitter

Ok, so it is late Monday afternoon and I see this post it is about a Twitter show and it just pissed me off. Being the kind of guy that just does not sit on my emotions I think "Hey what can I do about this potential BS"

I log out of my "nobody" account and create @no_tweet_show my first post below.

I send Alyssa a twit inviting her to follow and guess what she did and then out of no where she RT (Re-tweets) my post.

I start using the #notwittertv hash tag that was first used by Alyssa Milano pretty sure she created it and HOLY SHIT 483 followers in one and a half hours that's nuts.

More to come

Josh: The Internet people have gone crazy.
Donna: No kidding.
-The West Wing

The Twittersphere started buzzing on Monday, after news hit the web of a possible Twitter-based reality television show.

Details about the program are sketchy, as the producers have released virtually no information about the show. All that could be learned from numerous identical, syndicated articles was that it would involve people on Twitter competing with each other to locate one or more celebrities in various locations around the world. This scarcity of known facts about the TV show has led to widespread speculation across the internet.

And people speculating on the internet always works out well, right?

My Response to Rooker

Mrs. Barrett’s article was only part of what spurred the Twit outburst. Several others did as well. I understood the satire and that is was meant as a “Wow look how bad this could really be” and that’s what I reacted to. The theory that a show with this premise could be possible turned my stomach. Like the article the #notwittertv hash was buzzed like crazy. Like Liz I could not sleep and I have taken a great deal of personal attacks over this and that is fine. My point I feel was similar to Liz’s point the OMG look how crazy out of control a show with this premise could be. The viral response was completely unexpected. I have been informed it was perhaps the largest Twitstorm to date.

Like Liz I am receiving personal attacks I am like I said “just a guy from South Carolina” that hated the idea that this might happen in a worst case way. Prevention was my intention and Liz’s article made many people think, for that I feel she did a great thing.

Twitter for 24 hours actually was something more than just #3wordsaftersex #unfollowdiddy or some other utterly pointless hash, it had energy and a purpose. I only wish it was over something that would make a difference for the regular people like Liz and I that are just trying to get by, or that it could have spurred true social change.

This has been a lesson for me, I liked being that Mr. Nobody.

thank you for the blog

'Twitter TV Show' Brouhaha: The Aftermath

All of my comments are in bold Now this is too funny....... um timeline is a little off and the copied posts are a bit out of context but hey these guys need hits to LOL.......

The question, of course, is whether the backlash about an official Twitter TV show (that involves stalking celebrities) (which doesn't exist but which some in the twittosphere now think does, or could, due to tweeting and reporting that spread like wildfire on Monday) will calm down as quickly as the original conflagration spread.

Already, some dude created a Twitter account called No_tweet_show, whose mission appears to be to prevent a Twitter-based celebrity-stalking show from ever appearing.

He repeatedly bugged Twitter co-founder Evan Williams about it yesterday:
(I bugged him with 5 (edit it was ten my mistake) tweets this to a guy who averages 12 tweets a minute LMAO oh and I responded to him not Visa Versa.)

I love how he portrays Alyssa
"Meanwhile, Alyssa Milano got into the act (perhaps noticing the amount of attention Ashton Kutcher got after he threatened to stop Twittering?)"

Hehehehe she was the one who got the ball rolling Beeewwwwwaaaaahhhhhhhaaaaaa to funny

Hordes of Twitter
fans have spoken out against Twitter's integration with the television industry, even causing the world's top Twitterer, Ashton Kutcher, to threaten a hiatus from the microblogging service. Many have adopted #nottwittertv as an anti-Twitter TV calling card, and @No_tweet_show has turned into a central location against the idea. Simply put: Twitter TV is a bad idea.

Who is Ian Former

That's the question of the week....

A 39 year old from South Carolina who took up the "no twitter tv" cause. I have gotten several notices that I am being searched on the internet so I figured I would put it out.

I started my first twitter account a week before Twitter announced the intention to make a show as a co-colaboration. With the support of a few "big name celebrities" I started my second account @no_twitter_show the viral buzz it created is overwhelming. I never considered myself someone who would get twitteriety. I have and it is crazy. When the buzz first hit Twitter I wanted to put a stop to the idea of a Twitter stalker show The response from the Owners was at best vague The response from Twitter users was clear.

The last post from Evan @ev was "@Alyssa_Milano thx, Alyssa. There is a show in the works, but it's been mis-characterized. #omgalyssamilanojustrepliedtome" so as we can all see the show will go on we just have no clue what it is. The Twitterverse may not like the idea however the Twitter team has approved and signed a contract allowing the twitter tv show to be done.
.
Myself I feel the tv show is not a good direction given how glitchy twitter is.

But hey I am just some guy from South Carolina.

Thanks to everyone on Twitter who got behind the @no_twitter_show

Twitter Television Show Encourages Stalking

Twitter shook up our holiday weekend on Memorial Day releasing information about a Twitter television show in the works. Twitter announced a lightweight agreement with Reveille and Brillstein Entertainment to develop a ‘reality TV’ drama with the aim of putting ordinary people on the trail of celebrities using Twitter in a competitive nature.

Twitter TV: What Should They Call It?

By Omar L. Gallaga

Hardcore users of Twitter are still taking in the news that the social networking site is devoting some of its energy to getting into the TV business (instead of, say, adding nested replies or making it easier to organize friends on the service).

Kutcher threatens to stop Twittering

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Ashton Kutcher -- Twitter's top tweeter -- warned he may pull the plug on his tweeting if the micro-blogging service partners on a reality TV show.
Ashton Kutcher said he might give up Twitter if the Web site's parent company participates in a reality show.

"It's all fun and games until somebody gets stalked," Kutcher wrote in a Twitter posting late Monday.

Fans protest Twitter reality TV show as co-founder Biz Stone hedges

The Twitterverse has spoken: Twitter TV is a bad idea.

Plans for a Twitter-based reality TV show were the talk of Hollywood (and Silicon Valley) on Memorial Day, but 24 hours after the news broke, the Twitterverse is up in arms and even the micro-blogging site's co-founder, Biz Stone, seems to be hedging.
